  4. National Catering Awards success
3rd April 2015

Catering staff from the University of Edinburgh's Accommodation Services scooped three
awards at The University Catering Organisation (TUCO) competitions, making it the University's most successful entry to date.

The team from the University of Edinburgh beat off stiff competition from more than 200 talented chefs, foodservice personnel, caterers and baristas from higher education institutions to turn up trumps in three award categories.

Anjelica McLeod Catering Assistant who works at the University of Edinburgh's Kings Buildings claimed the prize for best signature drink, and also won bronze in the Barista Skills Challenge.

Tomasz Malecki and Artur Kutzu, who are Junior Chefs at the University's John McIntyre Conference Centre won the award for best hygiene practice in the Chef's Challenge award, while Andrzej Krawcyck, conference and banqueting supervisor for Edinburgh First, the University's accommodation services, won best table lay up in the Food Service Skills Competition.

Now in its 22nd year, the TUCO awards comprise a wide range of skills-based competitions for staff from the universitycatering sector and attract hundreds of leading figures from the university catering sector every year. This year, they were held in Blackpool on 16 and 17 March.

Ian Macaulay, assistant director (catering) at The University of Edinburgh, commented:"The TUCO competition is a fiercely competitive incentive with people travelling from across the UK to take part in the competition. It is a huge honour for our staff to be nationally recognised and rewarded for their outstanding talent in the university catering sector.

"At the University of Edinburgh, we pride ourselves on our hospitality and catering offering and last year we were thrilled to win an award in the Food Service Challenge. Seeing our staff win three TUCO awards this year is not only a great milestone for the university's accommodation services but a well-deserved accolade for our staff, who work tirelessly to maintain the university's standards of catering excellence."
