The early stages of university life can be a whirlwind, but at the heart of your university journey lies the need for flexibility, time management, social interaction. With catered accommodation at Pollock Halls, you get all of this:
Flexibility
With set mealtimes within a 3-hour period, you can enjoy weekly freedom from grocery shopping, saving time for other university activities.
Breakfast: Monday – Friday 07:15-10:30
Brunch: Saturday – Sunday 10:30-13:30
Dinner: Monday – Sunday 17:00-20:00
If you can't make a meal service, you can pre-order a packed meal to collect.
Variety of food
A wide range of meal choices, including classic dishes, vegetarian/vegan options, and regular themed nights that introduce you to foods from all over the world. Our food and sustainability have won numerous awards.
Budgeting and time management
Worried about juggling finances and finding time to study? When you live in Pollock Halls, your meal costs are part of your accommodation fees, so no need for grocery budgeting. While catered halls might seem more expensive at first, it’s because your catering costs are paid up front. Plus, you won’t have to wash up after your meals!
Community
The JMCC restaurant where you’ll eat your meals is a hub for socialising. The restaurant, along with our onsite bar, Arthur’s, fosters a sense of community that’s invaluable during your university experience.
Location
Pollock Halls are conveniently located near George Square campus and King’s Buildings campus, offering easy access to classes. For those who enjoy exercise, the University’s Centre for Sports & Exercise is close by, and you’ll even have free onsite access to Oxygen Fitness Studios.
We allocate rooms proportionally and not on a first come, first served basis, therefore all applicants will have an equal chance of getting one of their accommodation preferences.
For example, if the University confirms that 20% of applicants are Unconditional at a given time, we will allocate 20% of rooms across all our residences to those applicants.
We allocate based on students’ age, nationality and course to find the best possible mix for potential flatmates. We aim to create a diverse mix of cultures and backgrounds and have students of similar ages living together.
We’ll often have a few flats just for mature students, and Undergraduates and Postgraduates will always live separately.
While most of our residences are mixed gender residences, we do have some individual single sex flats for those who require it.
The University of Edinburgh has accommodation for students who wish to bring their partners or children with them while studying, but this accommodation is not guaranteed. Offers are made on a first-come, first-served basis once you have an Unconditional Firm offer to study at the University.
Find out what is available on our Domus website.
https://domus.ed.ac.uk/student-information/
In addition to University accommodation, there is also a large amount of privately-rented accommodation available in Edinburgh. The Advice Place (run by the Edinburgh University Student's Association) has a range of useful information.
If you would like to share a twin room with a friend, you’ll both need to list each other’s name on your application forms.
Otherwise, we don’t place friends together. This helps us create a diverse mix of nationalities and courses in each flat, giving you the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.
The accommodation lease for student accommodation does not allow pets in properties. The exception to this rule is for Assistance Dogs that fall into the definition in the linked document below. In such cases, the dog will be welcome where suitable accommodation is available.

Instructions for amending your card details
Instructions for amending your card details
If you pay by Direct Debit and your debit card has expired, you do not need to do anything as Direct Debit is linked to your bank account number and sort code, which will remain the same.
We only have permission to discuss with your accommodation contract with you directly. To give us permission to deal with any third parties regarding your accommodation fees, you must email us at accom.rentenquiries@ed.ac.uk. Please provide their full name, relationship to you and what you are authorising us to discuss with them.
An advanced payment towards your accommodation fees will make your repayments easier to manage. We offer three options, £500.00, £1000.00 and £2000.00, which will be deducted from your invoice and reduce your monthly repayments.
If you wish to make an advanced payment, you will need to ensure it is done at least 5 calendar days prior to your next payment is due, to avoid the card or account being charged, which may leave your account overdrawn.
If you’re a student who would like to make a payment: https://www.myed.ed.ac.uk/myed-progressive/
If you’re a parent/guardian who would like to make a payment: https://www.payments.ed.ac.uk/accommodation

Here you will see the amount and dates for payment.
If the network or MyEd is down, you can email us at accom.rentenquiries@ed.ac.uk and we will aim to reply to you within 2 working days.
You do not need to pay a deposit.
This is likely because you have made a payment towards your accommodation fees after our team sent our payment collection request to your bank.
To avoid duplicate payments being made, we recommend not making any payments between the 25th and the 31st of the month to prevent double payments. The University of Edinburgh will not be responsible for any costs incurred in the event a duplicate payment is made to us.
Our team will contact you to arrange how your overpayment can be refunded back to you. You can also choose to allocate this payment to any future accommodation payments scheduled.
To change your payment plan from monthly to semester instalments or vice versa, please email accom.rentenquiries@ed.ac.uk. You may also wish to change your instalment plan if it doesn’t line up with your funding or student loan schedule. Please email us with a proof of your funding schedule and we will do our best to amend your payment plan.
Your instalment plan can take up to 72 hours to be put in place and show on your MyEd Finance Channel.
Our team will revise your invoice based on your new lease dates and or new room price. If you have been given official permission to be released from your lease, you will be charged up to the day of your departure. Any money to be refunded will be refunded back to the original method of payment. If you owe the University, we will send you an email with a statement attached requesting payment.
Once signed, you can't move out without our permission. If you do, you remain responsible for payment of rent until someone else takes your room. There may be exceptions whereby a student may be able to terminate their lease agreement. Contact us on 0131 651 2118 so we can direct you to the right team.

There will be lots of these in your early weeks to help you meet new people.
These social events will continue throughout the year so you can continue to connect with your community. During your stay, you’ll also have the opportunity to suggest events and initiatives.
