I study darknet cryptomarkets, anonymous online exchanges which are used to buy and sell illicit drugs. They have transformed how illicit drugs are supplied and used.

Many people who use them find them to be an escape from the violence and uncertainty of the offline market. They are innovative and one example of how digital cultures have transformed illicit activity. I will be talking about what the benefits are for the people using them, the ways they have changed since they began in 2011 and the implications for the illicit drug market.
