Welcome to Edinburgh!
When you arrive in Edinburgh, there are a few things you need to know about checking in to your University accommodation.
You should familiarise yourself with the arrival procedures so that moving goes as smoothly as possible. To support physical distancing within our residences, we are asking our tenants to arrive across a 5-day period from Thursday 9 September. YStudents will receive a date and will have to book their own time to arrive. However, if this time and date do not suit, please follow the process explained on your Arrival Pass. Please do not just turn up unannounced as we need to plan your arrival to ensure a safe and comfortable arrival day.
The University of Edinburgh and everyone at Accommodation, Catering and Events are looking forward to welcoming you in September. However, we understand that some of you may need to arrive early due to the need to self-isolate or as a result of restricted flights.
- We can offer accommodation for early arrivals at £25 per night in one of our hotels (subject to availability). This includes three packed meals per day that would be dropped at your hotel room door. Please note that there are no cooking facilities within these rooms and your room will not be serviced for the duration of your stay (although fresh linen and towels will be provided). To book this accommodation, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Online ordering for meals or provisions
To order, go onto any of the websites below, register as a new customer, choose a delivery time slot, choose items and place them in your ‘shopping basket’ and proceed to the online checkout. You will have to pay with a credit/debit card. When the delivery arrives at your door they will ring your doorbell or phone you.
Many local restaurants and cafes offer delivery services (see below); these are the most popular among our students. Enter your postcode on the website/app and view the food options available and how long the delivery will take to arrive. You will have to pay with a credit/debit card. It will be delivered to your door, they will ring the doorbell to the apartment or phone you.
Applying to leave university accommodation before the end of the year?
You will only be permitted to leave University accommodation before the end of your contracted lease period in exceptional circumstances, such as a serious medical or welfare concern where a
transfer will not resolve such concern or indeed if you cease to be a matriculated student at the University. In the first instance, you should contact the Residence Life Administrator at email@example.com who will be able to advise whether or not they think you have a reasonable case and advise you how to proceed. Normally, this will require a written request be sent for the attention of the Director - Residence Life and this will need to include any relevant supporting documentation, such as a letter from your academic supervisor or your doctor. The Director - Residence Life or one of the Senior Residence Life Coordinators will consider your case and write directly to you informing you of the decision reached.
You are reminded that, in all cases and in line with the contract terms and conditions relating to your residence in University accommodation, if you vacate your accommodation without receiving official, written permission to do so, you will be liable to pay all rents due until your accommodation is occupied by another tenant agreed by the University.
You can also be released from your contract if you find a suitable replacement tenant who must be a full time, fully matriculated student ideally at the University of Edinburgh and who is not currently living in University accommodation. Details of such a request, including the name and contact details of the student wishing to take your place in your accommodation, must be made in writing in the first instance to the allocations team at firstname.lastname@example.org
Please note any lease terminations will not happen, if approved, until the date your room is emptied and keys returned. You will be liable for rent up to that date and anything paid beyond then will be refunded to you.
