Our Heating Systems
Welcome to your new home! We know moving can be a lot, so we want to make settling in as smooth as possible. One of the most important things to understand is how your heating system works. While the specifics might vary slightly between buildings, we've put together these guides to help you stay cosy and comfortable throughout the colder months.
Please find your accommodation from the drop down lists below for further information.
Your heating system is switched on during these hours:
Spring & Autumn Season

Your accommodation has a wall mounted heater which you can adjust from low to high. The heaters are heated from hot water circulating through a centrally controlled Building Management System (BMS). During ‘on’ periods; the system is not designed to emit heat at all times; it works efficiently to provide room temperature of 18oc. The system is controlled by thermostats so when air temperatures increase and provides natural heating of 18 oc, the system will not activate.
The heating system is designed to provide 18oc during day and evening times.
Heating is not switched on overnight.

The heaters in your accommodation are known as electric storage heaters. These are activated during the night and store heat that can be released during the following day.
Your heater has an input and output control dial.
Input control dial – Use this dial to control how much energy is used to store heat overnight. Use low numbers in warm weather (or switch the heater off). In cold weather use higher numbers (9 is the highest).
Output control dial – Use this dial to control how much heat is released. Make sure you have this turned to 0 overnight or all the stored heat will be released overnight and there will be no stored heat available for release during the day. We recommend setting this at a low setting when you are not home, then turn the setting higher when you are using the roomSome heaters also have a boost switch located on front of heater. These are linked to timer controls on the wall so please switch the timer on as well as the boost button, otherwise the boost will not work.
If your heater does not work: Before reporting a fault to a member of staff check that the heater is switched on at the wall socket.
SAFETY – NEVER PLACE CLOTHES OR OTHER ITEMS ON TOP OR AGAINST YOUR HEATER. THIS CAN CAUSE FIRES OR ELECTRICAL POWER OUTAGE
The heaters in your flat are electric heaters. There are two different types of heaters which are all controlled individually by the buttons/settings at the top right hand side of the heater.
The recommended temperature setting is 21 oc
If you would like a copy of the full heater instructions, please speak with a member of staff in the site office (Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm)
